Fall '97

During the Fall, 1997, term, the MC Orff Ensemble focused on the music of Indonesia, performing traditional pieces on a gamelan built by Suhirdjan in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in the spring of 1997.
Harrison Parker, a long-time collector of Indonesian arts, joined the Ensemble for programs in November, 1997. Mr. Parker performed a puppet show, using three-dimensional puppets from Indonesia.
In addition to playing the gamelan, members of the ensemble performed "saman," a dance form which utilizes a row of people moving arms and heads in unison.
