This is my mid-term project for COMS 326, the Web Production class at Radford University. I have reviewed three pages and included screenshots and data from each. The following pages show my knowledge of CSS, HTML, screenshots, and Photoshop.
I chose three websites, all from different origins, off of The Society of News Design's award winning websites. They all are from different sources (The Indy Star, AP, The New York Times) and all contain different types of media. The first page, the Indiana University Database is strictly photos, graphs, and statistical data. I was mostly impressed with the amount of information that was compiled to put this website together. I definitely would have loved to see some video media on here of some of the best moments in the men's basketball program.
The second site, the Barack Obama Presidential Inauguration, came from AP. This website had it all, in my opinion. There was embedded video, a five-part documentary made specifically for this website. There was also live video of the inauguration on the day that it happened. (For archival purposes, they have put the inaugural speech on the home page). There were also photos and sound on tape of past inaugural addresses. This was probably the best page I saw of the bunch.
The last site, the technology review by New York Times columnist David Pogue was in between the two sites in its level of detail and media. While it featured Pogues on-screen speaking, it did not include personal reviews by Pogues himself on each of the specific technology reviews inside the site. However, the numerous links taking you to other reviews made up for this in some manner.
All of these reviews can be accessed by clicking the screenshots here on the page or up on the menu bar. Thank you for reading.
