European Literary Trails: English 201

Maggie Brady's Page

On May 12th 2002 I traveled to Europe with 11 other students and 1 professor. For the next 3 and half weeks we toured Paris and Versailles in France, Galway, Sligo and Dublin in Ireland and London, England. I used the trip as a means of cultural information in the arts of literature, through the texts of James Joyce's Dubliners and William Butler Yeats' Selected Poems and Four Plays. English 201 in Europe gave me the means to examine 'the arts' through all that the phrase encompasses. Experiencing not only literature, but the music, visual and performing arts and design, as it is appreciated in each of the three European countries. By studying each country's celebration of the arts through all parts of their surroundings I learned how other nations utilize self expression in formal and informal everyday life.

Above left I posed in front of the Eiffel Tower during my first week in Paris. Above right is a cafe I found in Galway named Maggie's Cafe. To find more about my experiences in Europe click on the links below.
