Interview Revision-Walker Lab

Open your document and save it with a new name (Walker Interview Draft). Turn on track changes (from tools). To remove after finished  1) turn off track changes on toolbar, and 2) go to box in upper left and select “Final.”

Use the header and footer to put your last name on the top right. Then go to insert page numbers to make the number appear automatically on each page.

Start with major revisions:

What should you add to make your dominant impression clearer?
Do you need to rearrange any information? Does each paragraph stick to one topic?
Do you need to re-focus or add to your ending beginning or ending?
Do you need to add or change quotations?
Do you need to add description (of subject), speaker tags (read aloud to someone?), body language?

Next, work on editing:

Are your title and heading placed and spaced correctly?
Do paragraphs start in the right places?
Are your quotations punctuated correctly?
Have you checked FANBOYS, introductory clauses, parenthetical thoughts, and non-restrictive appositives for commas?
Check for sentence fragments and comma splices.

If you get to the point where you feel you can’t correct any more errors on your own, print your track changes copy. Then trade papers with someone and edit. As the editor, explain the reason for each of your corrections in the margin. Be sure to point out unclear sentences or poor word choices by drawing a squiggly line under them. Be sure to trade back before you leave.

You may also work on your Writer’s Memo if you are satisfied with your paper.

Turn in on Thursday:
