BIOGRAPHY
As long as I can remember, I wanted to be a teacher. My teaching career was
delayed a bit while I produced three daughters. When they reached their teen
years, they suggested that I "get a life." So, off I went to school.
My undergraduate work was completed at Radford University. Then I went to
Bloomington, Indiana where I received my Masters and Doctoral degrees. I teach a
fantastically interesting combination of classes ranging from cultural geography
courses to technical applications to field research methods. My goal as a
teacher is to provide students with the skills necessary to interpret their
world.
Although I grew up in upper New England and am a latecomer to the Appalachian
area, I quickly became interested in the region. In fact, I specialized in the
Appalachian region for my doctoral research. Here at Radford University, each
fall semester I teach a course titled APPALACHIAN GEOGRAPHY. Each fall semester
I also teach INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN GEOGRAPHY introducing students to the tools
and concepts of geography. During the Spring Semester I teach another regional
geography course about China and the upper level CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY course that
compares and examines different cultures. As a change of pace I periodically
teach DIGITAL CARTOGRAPHY.
