I'm a local gal and grew up in Dublin, Virginia. I couldn't decide what to do with myself after graduating High School, so I worked full-time in the medical field just long enough to decide that wasn't for me. I actually began my studies at NRCC, right down the road! I double-majored and earned A.A.S. degrees in Computer Information Systems and Business Management. I then transferred into VT's business education program where I earned my B.S. and graduated top of my class.
After receiving my B.S., I was accepted into the graduate program at VT and offered a job with the Center for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (CEUT) . Within a year, I had my M.S. in Business Education and was off to look for a "real job." It was at this time that I began to pursue corporate training and working part-time at NRCC in Dublin, VA.
I fell in love with teaching at the college level, and decided to pursue a
Ph.D. In the Spring 1998, I starting working at CEUT again, continued to teach
part-time for RU and/or NRCC & enrolled as a full-time student at VT. Phew... and I
finally graduated the summer of 2003 with my doctoral degree in Training and
Development from VT. GO
HOKIES!

As far as my family life, I have been a wife for almost 7 years. As a matter of fact our anniversary is on March 2nd. My husband and I chose to get married on a date that we could remember easily. So, we picked March 2, 2001 (3-2-1).
I have been a mother for 3 years. My daughter, Klair, had her third birthday on March 13th. She is adorable (spoken like a true mother) but also the reason I am going grey-headed and have to work as much as possible.
For fun we do lots of things as a family. Unfortunately, we have been consumed with house repairs for the past several years, and I spend many of my weekend as a home repair diva. Our house is currently up for sale, so hopefully my roles as painter, carpenter, tile layer, and landscaper will be over soon. The only home repair roles I want to take to the next home are decorator and landscaper!
A few I really love to do are:
My favorite TV shows are "House", "Survivor", "American Idol" and "Lost". I love several types of music but my favorites are 80's classics and country (present and classic). I went to see George Strait in Charlottesville, Jan 19th. I am his number one fan and have since decided that I want to own a ranch and be a cowgirl! Yeehaw! Well, we'll see...
Ok, well I guess I got ahead of myself since I put all of my education stuff in my short biography section. If you like to torture yourself, feel free to read the section again.
I have a lot of professional interests, but I'll spare you most of the boring details. My dissertation was on "A Profile of Current Training Practices in Southwest Virginia" where I worked closely with several community colleges and local businesses learning about the training programs they offered. Really cool, learned a lot, but have published nada at this point from it. Ugh...
I'm also interested in technology and its impact on education in our area -- although that's a loaded statement. I'm not doing much in that area right now either.
I love designing web sites, and I learn more and more every day since things seem to change on a whim. My most recent contract was with the Dept of Education, Office of Educational Technology where I developed a website to help them collect and analyze data from all Virginia public schools.
Also, I develop specialized curriculum and training packages (both online and print) for businesses that want to provide content-specific educational opportunities for their employees.
Oh yeah, and lastly I'm currently teaching three sections of ITEC100 for Radford University! That's all for now...
