My Time In Digital Imaging

MSTD 226, Digital Imaging, has taught me a lot about how to use the Adobe programs correctly and how to make sites and images radiate with creativity. I’ve learned to use such things as Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash and how to work with HTML codes. Also, we studied and practiced with several tools that better our technique while working with digital images and web designing. Different techniques were learned as well as different processes, each one bettering my skills while working with these programs. I hope to use all the skills I’ve learned in the future with career in Media Studies.

- Write a synopsis (three to five paragraphs) describing some of the tools, techniques, and processes used throughout the course for various assignments. Use the terms below to help articulate your synopsis.

Examples of tools, techniques, and processes (using Adobe Photoshop, HTML code, and Macromedia Dreamweaver) covered in class this semester:

Tools:
Selection tools (magnetic lasso, lasso, magic wand, color range, filter-extract), healing tools (healing brush, spot tool, spot healing brush, red eye tool, clone stamp tool, pattern stamp tool), color (color picker, gradient tool, paint bucket), text (text tool, bend tool, free transform tool), web links (slice tools), cropping and straightening images (crop tool, trim, rotate arbitrary, measure tool), Special effects (bend tool, free transform, filters, layer styles), etc.

Techniques: Image cropping, creating shapes for logos (shape tools), using Photoshop filters for special effects and image manipulation, sizing portions of images (layers, free transform tool), special effects, calculating file size and bandwidth (bits, bytes, kilobytes,  megabytes, gigabytes etc)

Processes: Image restoration (healing tools), conversion for print (RGB to CMYK), conversion for the web (from .PSD to .JPEG, .GIF, transparent .GIF, .PDF), embed images within an HTML document for  the web (HTML code, Dreamweaver, Photoshop), image interpolation (downrezing - decreasing resolution), changing actual image dimensions (height x width), creating an HTML document (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, HTML), create structured directories and manage files ("H" drive, public_html folder, assignment folders), convert images to HTML links (HTML, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Dreamweaver).
