I designed this extra credit assignment for two reasons.
First, for you to learn how to find information about the Commonwealth
of Virginia on the WWW and, more specifically, about the area you may live in. Second, for you
to learn more about the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Your assignment is to find which two counties or incorporated cities
in Virginia, according to the latest Census, had the fewest African-Americans. To complete
this assignment you first have to go to a web site at the University of Virginia.
This website will provide you with a
state map
that displays the
overall percentages of African-Americans in each county and incorporated city. You
can use this state map to narrow your search. You then need to go to the Census
Bureau. This
website will provide you
with the information that will tell you which two
counties or incorporated cities had less than one percent of their population declaring themselves as African-Americans.
I will give you 10 extra credit points for completing this extra credit
assignment. Turn in the printout that contains the
information on the two counties/incorporated cities to get your
extra credit points.
