Advice from another student to you
Students occasionally wonder what they need to do to earn an A on the exams in my Introduction to Sociology courses. I asked a student who earned a 98 out of 100 on one of my tests to outline exactly how she prepared for the exam. Below is her advice in her words. If you follow her advice, there is no reason why you cannot earn A's on the tests.
What To Do |
When |
How Long it Takes |
| complete the Study Guide *This is the main study tool.* | about two weeks before the exam | (this is the part that takes the most time) about 2 - 3 hours |
| print out and read (with a high-lighter) all of the quiz material | a night or two before the quizzes | depends upon how long the material is, but no longer than 20 - 30 minutes. |
| print out and read (with a high-lighter) all of the newspaper articles | about a week and a half before the exam | This takes about half an hour since the material is already highlighted. |
| look over the study guide and highlighted material | each night a couple of nights before the exam | it only takes about 20 minutes each time because all the information is already done and right in front of you |
I also take about 45 minutes right before the exam to look back over the study guide and readings. On Jim's exams, some of the information is very specific, so you either know it or you do not, so this is just a last cram before the test.
This is pretty much all I have been doing and it has worked. Hope this was of some help to you.
