Fine Art and Graphic Design
Papermaking:
My fine art is primarily handmade paper with collage and computage or digitally manipulated photographs and images. I work both in the wet media of handmade paper, watercolor and acrylics and in the dry environment of inkjet prints on commercial and handmade paper. 1973–present: Freelance designer and illustrator
My clients include non-profit opera, dance and theater groups, textbook
publishers, organizations for the handicapped, educational games manufacturer,
chamber of commerce, computer hardware and software firms, potters, galleries,
educational research publishers, and interactive CD and music CD publishers.
I do mostly work for print, but have done a bit for CD's and video and the web. Click

1977–1988: I worked as a Senior Graphic Artist for The University of Michigan
Publications Office.
Teaching:
Professor Emerita of Art, Radford University, Radford, VA 24142
1988–2005: I taught computers for graphic design, beginning to advanced graphic design, typography, illustration and papermaking. I was Curator of the Art Department Computer Lab and served as a full member of the graduate faculty.
Before Radford I taught production workshops, and computers for graphic design at The University of Michigan School of Art, Ann Arbor, MI 48109. I also was a teaching assistant at the UM School of Art and College of Engineering teaching computers for graphic design and assisting with an interdisciplinary course in design of a computer interface.
As a lecturer in the Department of Art, Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI 48197, I developed and taught beginning graphic design for non-majors, typography, and introductory graphic design. I was a member of the graduate faculty.

My thesis examined associated meanings for basic geometric shapes across
graphic design and non-design student populations.
MA in Advertising '75 Michigan State University
I surveyed attitudes toward corporate and governmental support of and
involvement in the arts for my thesis. Courses emphasized arts administration
and graduate-level graphic design.
BA in Art History and Studio Art '73 Randolph-Macon
Woman's College, Lynchburg, VA
My studio specialization was in watercolor and acrylic collage while my
art history concentration was in contemporary Japanese prints.
How I keep current:
Visiting artist in papermaking at Kyoto Seika
University in Kyoto, Japan with Akira Kurosaki. Japanese papermaking in
Shikoku, Japan with Minoru Fujimori. Japanese papermaking at Penland School
of Crafts with Mina Takahashi. Earthwatch projects in Vietnam (butterfly
survey and web site design), Costa Rica (caterpillar survey and web site
work), Italy (Etruscan archaeology), Greece (geological survey of Thira),
Yucatan (architectural surveys and drawings) and Macedonia (survey of
traditional costume). Workshops in multimedia, Photoshop and QuarkXpress
at the Center for Creative Imaging.
Just for fun:
I travel at every opportunity and take zillions
of photos everywhere I go. I especially enjoy Japan, Japanese friends,
food, design, calligraphy, and the countryside. I've studied Japanese
for years and forgotten more than twice what I learned. My French used
to be fluent; my Italian is passable; my German allows me to survive.
Combining computers and traditional media, I paint in watermedia, make
paper, and create collages.
