WEEKEND IN MIDLOTHIAN

I arrived at Mum's house around five, and about an hour later, Mom and Dad showed up.  The doorbell rang, and all the dogs started barking and rushing towards the door, I know my parents were here.  Then all the bipeds greeted each other and my parents were delighted to meet all the doggies

Khandi looking gorgeous with her pink bows and loving all the attention

Herriot looking handsome with his neckerchief after his beauty parlor trip, smelling of Brut.

We had dinner with fresh spinach salad from my parents garden and rice with beef strogenoff.  And this was the dessert.

Saturday, the grown-ups went to a big church yardsale that Mum was participating in to get rid of all the junk from the house, and afterwards, the grownups went shopping in the Chinese grocery store.  I stayed home to study anatomy with the doggies.  It was rainy and cold.  I noticed that Herriot, the little boy dog wasn't quite himself, not coming for treats after tiddles and making messes in the house.  When the grown-ups came back around three, they started hussling around preparing dinner - it was going to be a big Chinese dinner and Adam Knoff (Iain's best man) and Mrs D'orio (Iain's second mummy) were joining us for dinner.  So in the midst of all the chaos, Mum had me help her fashion a sling pouch out ofher apron, so that she could be hands-free while cuddling Herriot so that he could have a quiet snooze to help him feel better.

look at him...
mamma kangaroo

he was happy as a clam napping in the pouch, usually with one paw hanging out on the side...

the mother marsupial is very protective of her sick young, for fear of mischevous hair-stylist predators, even when she rests, she tends to the baby in her pouch, never letting him out of her sight

But Adam and I were convinced that Herriot is just pretending to be sick and we were determined to unnmask the little dog''s scheme.  Also, we thought that he'd look very dashing with a mohawk.  So after another trip outside for the bathroom, we got a hold of Herriot.  Adam found some Herbal Essence Styling Mousse in the bathroom, and we went into the garden room to do Herriot's hair.  The mousse needed some time to dry, so I took Herriot upstairs when Adam distracted Mamma-roo in the kitchen.  Herriot was very good-natured and didn't mind it at all.  Unfornately, the hair on his head were too long and the mousse wasn't strong enough to hold it up (to which Adam exclaimed that we should have just super glue, when he also came upstairs to see how the mohawk was coming along), so the hair kept flopping down.  At this point, Mamma-roo's noticed that the little dog was missing, and also conspicuously Adam and I were also missing.  She came upstairs, took a look at the dog, didn't say a word, and put him back into the pouch, where he stayed for the rest of the evening.
this was the result of our work, carefully held up for a fraction of a second just for the photo evidence... Mamma-roo couldn't bear to look....at least the dog smelled like Herbal Essence for a while :)

Do you know how hard it is to get yor pet to look at the camera for pictures?  and try to coordinate that with three little animals, one of them deaf?!

notice the wonderful watch that Adam is modeling for us, a special token from his lady friend Liz.

the key is to just take the pictures whenever the animals are ready, and hopefully the human subjects look nice too.

The beautiful garden in the spring, it's still rainy and wet though...

My parents looked through Iain's baby pictures, just as his mother did with mine.  And Mrs D. joined us.

we got one dog looking at the camera, sort of, and other two looking completely the other way...

Dinner was fantastic.

And after dinner was more picture time.
Adam's favorite picture, because we were all intently studying a giant hamburger on the coffe table.  (or it looks that way).

Then Mamma-roo let down her guard one more and I have the little dog again ;)

Sunday Brunch, we were joined by Mum's friends and co-workers.

I came back to Norfolk with lots of food and flowers too:)  Then I saved a tree when its owners, graduating and moving away didn't want anymore.
