Dr. Mekolichick earned her Ph.D. in Sociology with a specialization in Social Psychology from Kent State University. She has been teaching Sociology since 1994 and has been at Radford University since 2001. Her teaching interests are in the areas of research methods, social psychology, social problems, and sociology of sport. Her research interests are mainly in the areas of self and identity. She has applied this theoretical orientation to various content areas including amateur bodybuilders, undergraduate teaching and learning, and survivors and witnesses (children) of domestic violence. She enjoys conducting research collaboratively with students, is a Councilor in the national organization Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR), and her current work reflects this interest and commitment. Along with several student researchers, she is working on a project addressing student identities and paid employment and a community-based research project conducting a program evaluation for a local non-profit.
