It was chartered January 24, 1939, and was ready to begin the new year as a fill fledged Kiwanis Club.

The club gave a minstrel show to raise money for its community work. It furnished hot lunches to a number of school children, distributed Christmas baskets to 20 indigent families, gave a Christmas party to 400 children.

The club was instrumental in having a class in advertising formed at the High School, and it was able to secure summer jobs for several students.

Although saddened and somewhat hampered in its work by the death of its president, the club celebrated Mother's Day, Armistice Day, and Thanksgiving, placed a float in the Halloween parade, and inaugurated a contest for the best lighted home at Christmas.

On the night of the presentation of its charter, the club was host to Georgetown, Dover, Seaford, Rehoboth, Elkton, and Westminster. It received a flag from Wilmington and the plaque from Seaford, and it sent delegations to visit Dover, Rehoboth, North Baltimore, and Bridgeville, and presented a banner to Salisbury.

The club had a joint meeting with Rotary and a Ladies' Night.

A number of programs on Kiwanis Education were given, the District Governor and the LG were entertained, and representatives were sent to the District Convention.

The chief work of the club for underprivileged children was that of furnishing hot lunches to schoolchildren.

The club had a program on Boy Scout work and the possibility of organizing another troop. On the school playgrounds, teams of different age groups were organized to promote equalized competition, and prizes were offered for the winners in different groups.

The club called a meeting of city merchants to active a Chamber of Commerce. Raised $700 for the construction of a city swimming pool. Sponsored the decoration of the city for the Christmas season, and aroused interest in a lighting contest. A city-wide Clean-Up Week was inaugurated.

The club sent delegations to five interclub meetings, and was host to one.

Entertained the Division Training School with LG elect and representatives from 9 Division clubs, 23 members visited other clubs.

Held a Ladies' Night with the Rotary Club at Thanksgiving, and one in honor of the District Governor by the Rehoboth Club.

The club had Kiwanis Education meetings, celebrated Kiwanis Anniversary, and Constitution Week, entertained the LG, and was represented at the MidWinter Conference and the District Convention.

The club held a musical show and a donkey baseball game and raised over $300 for its community welfare work. It furnished hot lunches for needy school children, gave food, clothing, and fuel to two families at Christmas, and worked with the local committee to put on the Christmas entertainment for underprivileged children.

Appointed a committee to work with the Playground League, contributed liberally to the swimming pool project, started by the club and now taken over by the city. This fund has now reached the sum of $40,000, and the pool is nearing completion. The club also gave $155 to buy material and build club houses for the Boy Scout Troop and the Girl Reserves.

The club had a Farmers' Night, with 13 farmers present and the Delaware State F. F. A. boys' champion (a local youth) who addressed the club.

Programs were given on vocational guidance, and the club continued its policy of aiding boys to find suitable parttime jobs.

Initiated a movement for a bond issue to finance a new school building.

The club was host to Dover, Georgetown, and Rehoboth on the occasion of the visit of the District Governor, sent delegations to visit Georgetown and Bridgeville, and entertained the Division Training School for Club Officers.

The club had a Charter Night, Ladies' Night, two fishing trips, one shore dinner, and a joint meeting with Rotary.

All Kiwanis Week was celebrated. Entertained the LG and District Governor. Sent club representatives to the Training School for Club Officers, the Mid-Winter Conference, and the District Convention.

The club had 100% attendance for two successive months.

The club had a donkey baseball game and a boxing show, raising $163. The entire membership met on several different occasions at the Playground and Bathing Beach working hard at putting the finish touches on this project. Spent $16 for school lunches and $23 for food and clothing for needy children, and gave $5 to the T. B. drive. A second Scout Troop was formed, financial aid was given, and a Scoutmaster and a meeting place were found.

A big Civilian Defense meeting was held with a number of invited guests, $125 was given to the Fort Salisbury Soldiers' Athletic Fund, $1000 to Red Cross Soldier Kits, and $40 to the Welfare Service Organization.

Held a Farmers' Night with 14 guests, and gave $10 to the 4H Club of the County.

There were two picnics. two Ladies' Nights, one, a Charter celebration, and one, a joint meeting with Rotary, besides which there were other joint meetings with Rotary.

Held 3 interclub meetings and attended 3 meetings with other clubs. Hosted the Training School for Club Officers. Sent representatives to Mid Winter Conference, the International and District Conventions.

A wooden leg was purchased for a local World War I veteran, whose leg ha amputated as a result of an industrial accident. Dental work to the extent of $33 was given three children. The full value of the work was $78. Because of the nature of the activity, the dentist charged only actual cost. A pair of glasses was purchased for an underprivileged child. Safety precautions were taken along the banks of the Mispillion Creek where it flows through the city. Lifesavers, bearing the name of the club, were hung from ropes in advantageous locations. Also the club played Santa Claus to the children in the children's ward of the hospital, and carried cheer to the patient in the other wards. A Farm Festival and Dance and a Rummage Sale were the means of raising money for these and other community activities.

Several programs were devoted to Scouting, and both a Boy Scout and a Girl Scout troop were organized, and were functioning well by the end of the year.

Held a Farmers' Night with farmer guests, there were 13 FFA boys present.

Sent 40,000 cigarettes to the boys in service, aided a group of girls brought to the neighborhood as bean pickers, urged citizens to do parttime work on farms, sponsored Victory Gardens, contributed $450 to civic and charitable projects, worked on selling bonds and stamps, and attended Church.

Visited Rehoboth and Bridgeville, and entertained Seaford and Rehoboth. Sent delegations to the U. S.Canada good will meeting in Washington and to Elkton.

Furnished the Division LG, host to the Training School for Club Officers, celebrated Kiwanis Anniversary and was represented at the Mid Winter Conference and the International and the District Conventions. On December 31, there were, 6 members in the armed forces.
