White Section: Interclub Competition Award
(From E-Builder, Jan 2005) On New Year’s Day the residents of Lancaster County have a reason to be proud. The local marching band from Lancaster High School will have the honor of representing the United States by performing in the annual New Year’s Day Parade in London, England. Getting there was no easy challenge for the students. This 200 member band hails from a rural area where the high school only seats approximately 450 students. The students and the local band boosters worked diligently to raise the $150,000 needed to make the trip through a variety of fundraisers. Members of the local community also contributed in the form of donations. The Kiwanis Club of Kiln Creek, located in Newport News, VA, jumped at the opportunity to help support the students, despite the fact that they were from a community miles away. The band is set to return on January 3rd, after which Spiers will be visiting the club to share the experiences of the trip. Matt Brent, presented a check to band director Robert Spiers.
Contributed $100 to Tsunami Relief Effort.
