Skunks are best known for spraying
This is a defense mechanism against predators
The glands hold about a tablespoon of methyl mercaptan
With a tablespoon the skunk can spray 5 to 6 times
The spray can reach up to 15 feet
Before spraying the skunk usually hisses and growls
The skunk sprays when it lifts its tail
