What is New in the 6th edition of the APA Publication Manual - A Sample Paper
This very absurd sample paper points out the major changes in APA format, compared to Volume 5. I don't know that I have included every change, and if you find any major omissions I would love for you to pass those along to me. As another caveat, a major change in the APA manual is that it is chock full of a great deal of ambiguity and even some outright contradictions. When in doubt I have tried to rely on previous conventions and pedagogical concerns to guide me. Again, I welcome any suggestions you may have for clarifying and simplifying the teaching and use of APA format.
A short guide to the APA Publication Manual - Vol. 6
This is essentially a list of the rules that most commonly use in writing APA manuscripts.
Sample APA Vol. 6 Paper
This is a report of a very fake and very absurd study about doing psychotherapy with dead people (it is a blatant rip-off from an article that appeared in the Journal of Polymorphous Perversity).
Formatting APA Vol 6 Documents in Word 2007
This is a very nuts and bolts guide on how to get Word 2007 to make your paper to fit APA format.
This is a guide for writing an introduction to an empirical research report in APA format. It was developed to help my undergraduate research methods students to think about integrating research finding and stating clear hypotheses. I give it to my grad students as well.
Methods, Results, and Conclusions Guide
This too was developed for my undergrad students to help them write reports of empirical research they have conducted. I expanded it to cover topics that my graduate students often struggle with as well. The mock study is an extension of what was started in the Introduction Guide.
* Some of the content and much of the pedagogical value contained within these guides is based on materials developed by Dr. John Rosenkoetter at Missouri State University, who taught me research methods in undergrad (we won't say when). While I certainly underappreciated what he was teaching me at the time, I owe great deal of my success to his teaching.
** These handouts are based on the revised APA 6th edition that was released in November of 2009.
