SOCIAL SCIENCE MAJOR

About the Major:

Social science is an interdisciplinary major which may provide licensure for students who wish to teach economics, geography, history, and political science in the public schools. In addition, the social science major in either the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree program provides a basic background for future graduate work in any of the social sciences and a well-rounded liberal education for business, government, and other similar areas. The social science program is directed by the Department of History.

The social science major provides two options, a teaching option and a non-teaching option.  The requirements for each option are listed below.

Radford University is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), which is an alliance of 35 national professional education and public organization representing millions of Americans who support quality teaching.  To obtain, NCATE certification, an institution must go through a rigorous review of its teacher education programs to insure the quality of those programs.

Advisers:

Each Social Science major is assigned a Faculty Adviser from the History Department. Students are required to meet with their advisers prior to registration for the forthcoming semester. Students, with their advisers, will develop a program designed to fulfill the departmental and university requirements for graduation.
