Kurt Gingrich, Assistant Professor of History Kurt Gingrich has taught at Radford University since August 2000. Originally from Williamsport, Pennsylvania (home of the Little League World Series), Kurt has a B.A. in history and mathematics from the University of Virginia and an M.A. and Ph.D. in British history from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Kurt’s research interests center on the British Empire, and he has focused on the conjunctions among imperial, social, and intellectual developments in Britain in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. He is currently striving to transform his Ph.D. dissertation into a publishable monograph. He is also trying to complete essays on a variety of topics including the hurricanes of Jamaica, the Scots of South Carolina, the molasses of New England, and the prejudices of imperial bureaucracy. Kurt is married, has two sons and four cats, and is in the process of converting his office into a gallery featuring the artwork of his older son. He finds the everlasting demands of family life to be negligible compared to its incalculable rewards. Having lived in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, England, California, Arkansas, and central Virginia, Kurt has seen some of the world and hopes to see more. But for as long as possible, Kurt will happily call southwest Virginia and Radford University his home. You can find Kurt most days in his office (CHIE 210), where he gladly greets visitors, answers phone calls (540-831-5229), and responds to messages sent to his e-mail account.
