To enable appropriate faculty participation in the assessment of General Education, the Faculty Senate has established a General Education Assessment Committee whose responsibilities include devising a comprehensive assessment program that will be continuous and that will provide feedback to the General Education Curriculum Advisory Committee and to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The General Education Assessment Committee works collaboratively with the General Education Curriculum Advisory Committee to determine assessment needs and appropriate assessment goals and schedules.
The General Education Assessment Committee also works collaboratively with the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment to ensure integration with the university assessment plan and compliance with the SCHEV Guidelines for Assessment. The Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment provides advice and technical assistance to the General Education Assessment Committee.
This General Education Assessment Committee consists of nine faculty members appointed by the Faculty Senate. The nine positions are distributed among the undergraduate colleges in the following manner: four from the College of Arts and Sciences (one from the social and behavioral sciences, one from computational sciences, one from the humanities, and one from the natural and physical sciences), one from the College of Education and Human Development, one from the College of Business and Economics, one from the Waldron College of Health and Human Services, one from the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and one from the College of Information Science and Technology. Members of this committee serve two- year, staggered terms. The chairperson of the General Education Assessment Committee is elected from among that group. The Faculty Senate determines the process by which committee members are appointed.
The assessment of general education is a continuous process, with specific annual assessment goals jointly determined by the General Education Assessment Committee and the General Education Curriculum Advisory Committee in consultation with the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment and the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
