Radford University Foundation Scholarships

Substantial merit and need-based academic and athletic scholarship aid is awarded annually to currently enrolled students.  Applications will be available on the web after January 15.  Applications are also available in the RU Financial Aid Office.

This federally funded program, administered by the Virginia Department of Education, awards merit-based scholarships to high school seniors based on demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.

Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association and Donald A. Perry Foundation Virginia's Future Leaders Scholarship

The Virginia Cable Telecommunication Association is searching for Virginia's future leaders who need financial assistance to achieve their academic goals.  Applicants must be a resident of Virginia who will be attending a 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or technical school in Virginia.

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships

Applicants must be high school seniors or individuals who plan to enroll or are enrolled in full- or half-time undergraduate or full-time graduate coursework at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocation/technical school.  Applicants must have an annual adjusted gross family income of $35,000 or less and be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.  Applicants must be enrolled through Feb. 1 of the upcoming academic year.

John Gyles Education Awards The John Gyles Education Awards are given to full Canadian or American citizens.  They are available to male and female student that are studying any area in a post secondary school.  The minimum GPA is 2.7 and financial need is considered.  Visit the website

Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarships

All applicants must be citizens of a country in which there are Rotary Clubs and have completed at least two years of college-level coursework or equivalent professional experience before commencing their scholarship studies.  Initial application must be made through a local Rotary Club in the applicant's legal or permanent residence or place of full-time study or employment.

Addressing financial need is one of the key elements of The Sallie Mae Fund's community-based initiative, Project Access. To help students and families afford the cost of higher education and ensure funding is not a barrier to access, Project Access provides financial assistance through scholarships.

All-Ink.com is committed to helping students pursue their goal of a higher education.
All-Ink.com is offering up to $10,000 in scholarships to qualified students who are enrolled or planning to participate in an accredited college or university program during the Spring or Fall term or full-year. Students who apply must be a United States citizen or permanent resident with a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average. In addition, students applying are required to write a 50 to 200 word essay on who has had the greatest impact on your life, and a 50 to 200 word essay on what you hope to achieve in your personal and professional life after completing college. Virginia Credit Union Dorothy J. Hall Scholarship

To be eligible for scholarships, student applicants must:

  • have joined Virginia Credit Union by September 29, 2007
  • be the primary member of their own account (the first name listed on a VACU account), not just a joint owner on someone else’s account
  • be a rising college freshman, sophomore, junior or senior who will be taking at least nine credit hours per semester at an accredited college or university. You may be in either an undergraduate program or an associate’s degree program at a community college

Institute of Management Accountants The Memorial Education Fund (MEF) gives scholarships to accounting and finance students at undergraduate or graduate level.  You will need to be an IMA student member.  The scholarships range from $1000 to $2500.  Visit the website  

AICPA John L. Carey Scholarships Program

Scholarships are available to all liberal arts degree holders of any regionally accredited U.S. institution who wish to pursue a CPA certificate.

Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada

Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship of $3,500 is available for an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in full-time study preparing for a career in state and local government finance.

George A. Nielsen Public Investor Scholarship of $5,000 is available for an undergraduate or graduate student in public administration, finance, business administration, or a related field.  The purpose of the scholarship is to support the studies of full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students with a career interest in the efficient and productive investment of public funds.

Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants Scholarships

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen enrolled or accepted in a graduate accounting program in Virginia.  An official transcript, a current resume, a faculty letter of recommendation on school letterhead and an essay are also required.

AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students

This scholarship program provides awards of up to $5,000 to outstanding minority students to encourage their selection of accounting as a major and their ultimate entry into the profession. These awards are funded by the AICPA Foundation from monies contributed by the AICPA, its members, public accounting firms, and others. The program has been in existence for more than 20 years and has awarded more than $6 million in scholarships.

Virginia Sheriff's Institute Scholarship

The Virginia Sheriffs' Scholarship program was established to provide an opportunity for young people across Virginia to pursue an educational curriculum in criminal justice. Accordingly, the Board of Directors has established the application process for students to receive scholarships to assist in their educational endeavors.

Southside Virginia Tobacco Teacher Scholarship/ Loan Program

Promote economic growth and development in Virginia's Southside and Southwest regions by attracting and retaining modern businesses, through methods designed to increase the skill levels of the regions' labor pools.  This objective is reached through a competitive grant program and regional scholarships.

Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan Program

This program provides assistance to full-time students enrolled at a participating Virginia institution in an approved teacher preparation program for special education, chemistry, physics, earth and space science, foreign languages, or technology education.  Minority students may be enrolled in any content area and male students may be enrolled in any approved elementary or middle schoolteacher preparation program.   The institutions nominate juniors and seniors who have at least a 2.7 grade point average for final selection by the Virginia Department of Education. For more information, students should contact the Director of the Education Department at Participating Colleges or Universities in Virginia.

Six scholarships are available in the amount of $2,000 each for outstanding graduate students who intend to pursue the public school superintendent position as a career.

VIRGINIA COUNCIL OF TEACHERS OF MATHEMATICS 2006-7 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Students applying for this year's scholarship must be full-time students who are Virginia residents, graduating in Summer  or Fall, or in Spring with a major in mathematics, and planning to teach mathematics in a Virginia school.  Applicants planning to teach at elementary, middle school, high school, and college levels all are eligible, including students in a program leading to a mathematics lead teacher or mathematics specialist.

Special Groups

National Federation of the Blind The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) offers a broad array of scholarships to recognize blind scholars.  To be considered for a scholarship by the organization you need to be legally blind and must be pursuing a degree from a postsecondary school full-time.  You may also be working full-time and going to school part-time.  If you are chosen to accept the scholarship you must participate in all NFB program activities.  All scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, community service, and financial need.  Visit the website  

Terry Zahn Memorial Scholarship

Sponsored by the American Cancer Society and available only in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.  This scholarship competition is open to any survivor of childhood cancer diagnosed before the age of 19 and who is currently 25 or under.  Applicants must be accepted to an accredited two- or four-year institution and be legal residents of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia or Washington, D.C.

The Community Foundation of the New River Valley The Community Foundation strives to enhance the New River Valley by obtaining funds from local donors to give to local students from Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski, and the City of Radford.  One important requirement of this program is that each student file a FAFSA and attach a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) with the application. Recipients must be US citizen or permanent resident of Hispanic background residing in the fifty states or Puerto Rico, starting as a college freshman, sophomore, junior or senior by Fall 2008, enrolled (or in the process of enrolling) as a Full-time undergraduate student (minimum 12 credits per semester) from fall of 2007 through spring of 2008, applying to or enrolled in an accredited college or university in the fifty states or Puerto Rico, and in good academic standing with a minimum of a 3.0  GPA on a 4.0  scale.

Eligibility: Sons, daughters, step-children and grandchildren of Regular, Reserve, Retired or deceased officers or enlisted members who have served or who are now serving with the Naval Construction Force (Seabees) or Navy Civil Engineer Corps, or who have served, but have since been honorably discharged. Scholarships are for four year bachelor ’s degrees, and are not available for part-time or graduate study.

The Virginia Business and Professional Women's Foundation offer a variety of scholarships, loans, and grants to assist women re-entering the job market or furthering their education and careers. Scholarships are also available for high school seniors, women in Science and Technology, small businesses, foreign study, and many more.

Jeanette Rankin Foundation

Each year the Jeannette Rankin Foundation awards grants to low-income women who have a vision of how their education will benefit themselves, their families, and their communities. The JRF grants are for $2000 and are awarded each fall. The grants are typically distributed through the financial aid office, but are not restricted to tuition expenses. JRF award money can be used for books, supplies, transportation, childcare, or other expenses that will help the recipient achieve her educational goals. Selection is competitive, which means that meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee the receipt of a grant. In 2004, JRF gave 53 new grants selected from over 1300 applicants. JRF plans to award 60 new grants in the fall of 2005.
