IRISH SODA BREAD
500 grams (4 cups) plain flour 1 tspn bicarbonate of soda
1/2 tspn salt
approx 500ml (2 cups) buttermilk
Sift the dry ingredients together. Make a well in the centre and add enough buttermilk to make a soft dough. Knead lightly and flatten into a round. Cut a cross on top and bake at 220°C (425°F) for about 40 mins.
