Welcome to the Department of Sociology at Radford University!
Sociology at Radford offers a cutting edge major for students interested in understanding and solving social and cultural problems at the local, national and global level. We take great pride in excellent teaching, engaging students in hands-on research, and making vital contributions to the wider community.
As you’ll see when you explore our web pages, our Sociology Program is dedicated to the practical application of sociological knowledge to real-world concerns. Today’s leaders work in communities, organizations, and businesses that are rich in cultural diversity; they work with stakeholders with multiple social and economic needs; and they must stay ever attuned to the issues of environmental and global impact. As a major in Sociology, you will develop knowledge and research skills useful to organizations, community groups, and businesses in their efforts to build programs, make decisions, assess actions, and solve problems. Sociology is a high-demand major with excellent career opportunities.
Sociology at Radford offers a broad array of courses focused on research methods, social and cultural diversity, globalization, and the environment. Our students are strongly encouraged and expected to get involved in research projects and internships that sharpen their research skills while offering vital public service and on-the-job apprenticeship opportunities.
