Fixing Wireless vs Hard Wired Network Problems

Why do I need to do this?
  • Tablet users that received their computer prior to June 14, 2004 have a unique problem that their wireless network adapter might be selected and used even if they are plugged into a network connection.
  • The following changes correct this problem and make sure that the Ethernet network adapter will always take priority.

Change network settings
  • Right click ‘My Network Places’
  • Click Properties
  • Right click ‘Local Area Connection 2’
  • Click Properties
  • Scroll down to ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)’ then click it
  • Click properties

  • Click advanced
  • Uncheck ‘Automatic Metric’
  • Type ‘1’ in the field next to ‘Interface Metric’
  • Click ‘ok’
  • Click ‘ok’
  • Click ‘close’
