| Academic Advisor: | ||
The Center for Academic Advising and Student Support is staffed by graduate students completing degrees in counseling, administration in higher education and various other master degree programs offered at Radford University. Advisors are hired for a year-long employment in the Center and must go through an extensive training program prior to assuming their advising responsibilities. Advisors in the academic advising center are available to assist any student. The Center is located in Peters A104. Hours during the fall and spring semesters are 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday. |

They will also be available to assist any student who: has an interest in and wants to learn about any program in this college, needs clarification about academic policies and procedures, wants to learn about pursuing a teacher preparation program, and has other questions about programs, policies, or requirements. | ||

| Interdisciplinary Studies: freshmen are advised in the Center for Academic Advising and Student Support. At the end of the freshman year, students with a 2.50 grade point average are assigned to faculty advisors based on the licensure area (elementary, middle, special). Advisor assignments are made by the Advising Coordinator. Students are not assigned a faculty advisor until they have achieved a 2.50 grade point average except in Interdisciplinary Studies/Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Special Education/High Incidence Disabilities. | ||
| Exercise, Sport, and Health Education majors are assigned faculty advisors at the time the major is declared. Advisor assignments are based on the concentration area a student is completing. Advisor assignments are made by the Advising Coordinator. | ||

| Dean of the College (Dr. R. Paul Sale): directs all departments and serves as Chair of the Professional Education Committee, makes decisions regarding policies, and works with students who have problems or are dissatisfied with answers from their academic advisor, Advising Coordinator, department chair, or the Assistant or Associate Dean. | ||
| Administrative Assistant to the Dean (Holly Shannon): works closely with College administration to ensure college mission is met; provides student support and appropriate referrals to other offices an support services. | ||
| Associate Dean/Director Field Experiences (Dr. Pat Shoemaker): directs field experiences and works closely with field supervisory personnel and the professional Education Committee; works with junior and senior advisees; located in A114 | ||
| Assistant Director of Field Experiences: (Gail Ayers): accepts applications for admission to teacher education and field experiences; works with school divisions to establish field placements for students in junior clinical and student teaching; informs students about the teacher assessment requirements; located in Peters A113. | ||
| Center Coordinator (Donna Dunn): center coordinator is available to work with students and serves as an academic advisor; holds group advising sessions; talks with students about completing a program of study in a timely manner, improving grade point averages, study skills, and time management; completes graduation checkout; offers information related to teacher licensure. | ||
| Academic Advisor (Jenene Belcher): Jenene is new to the Advising Center. She will primarily be working with the students being advised by the center that are not freshmen. She brings a tremendous amount of experience to our advising center and will be able to help students with all aspects of their program of study. | ||
| Teacher Licensure: (Libby Hall): makes appointments for students with the center coordinator; answers questions, and keeps the center organized to allow for the greatest opportunity to meet students needs. Libby processes all teacher licensure applications -- feel free to call her if you have a question. | ||
| Advising Center Receptionist: (Joyce Nester) : makes appointments for students with academic advisors and answers general questions about the university and the college. | ||
| Department Chairpersons: oversee the organization and operation of their specific department; works with advisees and any student in a major offered by that department. Department Chairpersons are: | ||

| Student Responsibility | ||
| Each student is ultimately responsible for meeting the requirements of his or her academic program. | ||
| Once advisor assignments are made and a student is notified of the advisors name, it is the students responsibility to contact his/her academic advisor and schedule an appointment. Each advisor will post his/her office hours--students should go by the advisors office to check these hours and then call or return to the advisors office during those hours and schedule an appointment. | ||
