Accommodation Agreement
To
receive accommodations from the Disability Resource Office (DRO), all
documentation must be reviewed (see
documentation). Accommodation
Agreements are developed through the review of documentation as well as, the
student's input in a meeting with a DRO counselor.
Once the
accommodations are developed for RU academics, the student will follow these
procedures each semester:
-
Request the
accommodation forms available through DRO
-
The DRO will
provide a copy of the Academic Accommodation form and the Academic
Accommodations Agreement for each class/faculty member to you.
-
You will then
sign a form stating you have received copies of the Academic
Accommodation form.
Since it is your RIGHT to choose with whom to share confidential
information, it is your RESPONSIBILITY to initiate contact with
faculty in order to arrange the appropriate accommodations for each course.
The following guidelines will help you through the process:
-
Set up a
meeting with each faculty member during their office hours as soon as
possible.
-
Talk with the
faculty about your academic accommodations. In order for the
faculty to provide you with the best support possible, you will need to
discuss your strengths and weaknesses.
-
If
accommodations are deemed unreasonable due to conflicts with academic
standards, alternative accommodations and strategies should then be
discussed.
-
Devise a
strategy or plan with your faculty that will carry you through the
entire semester. If necessary, set dates for future meetings (for
more information, see How to Talk to Faculty).
-
Have faculty
sign the Accommodation Agreement. Give the faculty member the pink
copy, return the white copy to the DRO, and keep the yellow copy for
your own personal files.
-
Follow this
procedure with all of your faculty from whom you want accommodations.
The procedures listed above are continuously monitored, evaluated and
revised to assure that truly nondiscriminatory opportunities exist for all
members of the RU community.
