Prefectural University
RU English professor Don
Cunningham has spent the last two years traveling around the United
States presenting technical writing seminars to professional engineers
and architects. Recently, Cunningham journeyed to Japan to deliver an
intensive three-day seminar to professors and students at Aichi
Prefectural University in Nagoya. The program, RUN 2008 (Radford
University in Nagoya), was designed by Cunningham to help engineering
and information technology professionals improve technical writing
clarity and organization. “Writing is the most prevalent activity for
professional engineers, requiring up to 70 percent of their workday,”
Cunningham said. “Clear and accurate communication skills are essential
in conducting effective and successful businesses.” Professor Takashi
Okuda with APU's Department of Applied Information Science and
Technology hosted the program. Numerous APU faculty and 24 of the
university’s graduate and undergraduate students attended the seminars.
“My favorite student comment was that the topic was extremely useful for
presenting technical information in both Japanese and English
languages,” Cunningham said.
