Slide 29 of 35
Notes:
The research team has been very sensitive to the concerns of the National Park Service and Yosemite National Park. Team members were careful to follow sound scientific practice.
During numerous media encounters, including a cell phone interview on the slope for National Public Radio and the production of a documentary for The Learning Channel (TLC), the team focused attention on the geologic causes of the slides and not on potential triggering mechanisms, pending laboratory testing and computer modeling.
When the results implicating the septic leach fields were reported at the Annual Meeting of the Association of Engineering Geologists in Salt Lake City in 1999, the findings were quickly challenged by Yosemite National Park.
