Notes:
Overview of Radford University General Observations
In August of 1997, a team of three geologists and two professional rock climbers began making observations and collecting data for rock slope stability analyses in support of masters thesis research for graduate student Daniel R. Gilliam.
The team, pictured above, consisted of (left to right):
Eric Hall, climber; Robert (Taz) McGhee, climber, Dr. Gerry Wiezoreck, U.S. Geological Survey Research Civil Engineer, Dan Gilliam, graduate student, and Dr. Skip Watts, Engineering Geology Professor.
The purpose of the study was to examine the geologic structures (discontinuities) making up the Glacier Point rock mass and to identify those structures which contributed to the June 10, 1996 Happy Isles rockslide.
