Slide 4 of 35
Notes:
On the evening of July 10, 1996, two rockslides occurred, within seconds of each other, from the cliffs near Glacier Point above the Happy Isles Nature Center. Maps later in this report illustrate the location.
Accounts in the press indicate that fourteen people were injured and Emi Morales, from the Los Angeles area, was killed by that event.
Estimates of the total volume of rock in that slide have ranged from 50,000 tons to 80,000 tons.
This spectacular series of photographs is only part of a sequence of pictures of the rockslide and dust cloud taken by climber David F. Walter from across Yosemite Valley.
This marked the beginning of rockslide activity from the Glacier Point cliffs that has continued sporadically since that date. The more recent rockslides have shifted from the Happy Isles area to the Curry Village area.
