The College of Information
Science and Technology at
Radford University prepares
students with skills and
expertise essential to the
Commonwealth and the nation
as each moves from an
industrial-based economy to
an information-based
economy. The College
develops students' creative
and critical thinking
skills, teaches students to
analyze problems and
provides students the
knowledge and skills
required to effectively
utilize information
technology to meet a vast
array of challenges in the
arts and sciences, health
and human services,
education, and every aspect
of business. Most important,
the learning experiences,
programs of study and
faculty mentoring are all
designed to teach students
to be comfortable with the
dynamics of change. Faculty
in the College have a strong
commitment to continuous
review, evaluation, and
improvement of curricula in
partnership with
professionals in the IT
industry in order to meet
the emerging needs of
society.

Accomplishments
· Approval
of a cutting-edge rapid
response, open architecture
curriculum that has begun to
be emulated by other
colleges.
· Created
a new College with a
flexible and fluid
organizational structure
that has been the model of
other new colleges of
information science and
technology
· We
began with approximately 300
majors last year and have
already grown to more than
520
· In
one of the most competitive
academic environments
seeking computer and
information systems
scientists, we have
successfully hired 5 new
faculty members in the past
two years. We have an
interview with a very
talented faculty candidate
who is pay part of her own
way from China to have an
opportunity to apply for our
open position in information
science and systems.
· We
have secured approximately
$1,000,000 in NSF grant
funding
· We
have approximately
$1,200,000 in pending grant
funding proposals
· We
have developed an
Information Technology
Education Research
Consortium bringing together
experts from throughout the
region.
· Completion
of a 2+2 articulation
agreement with New River
Community College
· Preliminary
discussions on the
development of an
Information Technology
Education masters degree
concentration in cooperation
with the College of
Education and Human
Development
· We
have formed several
partnerships with industry
providers and are developing
others.
