Physical Science at Radford University
The Physical Science Program at Radford University is taught by
the Physics Section of the Department of Chemistry and Physics.
There are three options contained within the Physical Science
major:
- The Physics
Option is the traditional physics major. Students electing this
have many opportunities including graduate school in physics,
employment in physics or engineering fields in industry, or teaching
physics at the secondary school level.
- The Earth and Space Science Option is the main option chosen for
those wishing to pursue a science teaching career at the middle school
or high school level. Students in this option typically obtain their
teaching certification before grdaution from Radford University, and
have tradationally found these particular teaching skills to be in
great demand.
The state of Virginia certifies teachers in both the area of Physics as
well as in the area of Earth and Space Science. These two areas, along
with Chemistry and Biology, make up the four science certification areas
of Virginia as well as most other states.\
