Mission Statement

QuickFacts

The mission of the Chemistry Program is to prepare students for successful careers as professional chemists and also for advanced academic or professional studies, to graduate students who are good citizens, to provide strong academic support for majors other than chemistry, and to make a significant contribution to the University's General Education requirement. To accomplish this mission, the faculty provide students with high quality instruction, thorough academic and career advising, maximum availablility for help outside of class, and the opportunity to participate in undergraduate research. At all levels of instruction, the faculty are firmly committed to maintaing the high academic standards that have been associated with the Chemistry Program for many years.

The Chemistry Program at Radford University takes a very hands-on approach, both inside and outside the classroom and laboratory. Within the classroom and laboratory setting, enrollments are kept small so that the faculty can interact on a personal level with students. Small class sizes are found even in lower-level classes with a maximum of 30 students per section in 100-level courses. The faculty are responsible for conducting both the lecture and laboratory portions of each course. Outside the normal classroom and laboratory setting, most of the faculty hold study and/or review sessions on a weekly basis.
