Similar species
The Northwestern crow bears a resemblance but differs in range. The Fish crow is also similar to the American crow but differs in call. Ravens are often confused with crows but are larger, have a more wedge-like tail and differ in call.

Distribution
North America
Predominate throughout the majority of North America on all taxonomic levels although they have not been reported recently in western Texas the eastern part of New Mexico and southern California.
