My home is not a place, it is people.

PSG in the Media

Few would expect to find their home in a place they've never been before, with people they've never met, and ache when they aren't there. That is the experience this Pagan reporter had at the Pagan Spirit Gathering (PSG) June 20-27, 2004. PSG is held at Wisteria campground/nature preserve in Southern Ohio and is coordinated by Circle Sanctuary from Wisconsin.

This year, a news crew from Cleveland Channel 19 (WOIO, a CBS affiliate) decided to find out what we were doing. On June 24, during the daily morning meeting, Channel 19 flew overhead to get coverage of the festival. They were greeted with waves, smiles and pictures of the community blessing the delegation to the Parliament of World Religions.

Why a helicopter? Many festivals won't allow media into festival sites for many reasons. One, there are many Pagans who still live in fear of their religion being found out. Some Pagans may live in communities where Paganism is still feared and misunderstood. This can cause havoc in Pagan's lives. They can lose their jobs, relationships or even homes. Another reason why media may not be allowed on to festival grounds is the sacredness of the area. With constant rituals, spiritual awakenings and introspective journeys happening around the clock, the grounds themselves take on an energy and holiness that is revered and respected. Having reporters looking for a story on who Pagans are and what they do can detract from the event. At PSG the gate is truly a magical gate, the energy surrounding the grounds is completely different than the energy that is found outside the gate. This energy is maintained and respected by all for the festival.

The news segment aired on Channel 19 Action news on June 24th and 25th. On this site you'll find the story that was aired on the news and still photos pulled from that footage. This site will be updated regularly so please check back soon.

Please enjoy and Well Met.
