Caryl Worthington Conger, Assistant Professor and Director of Accompanying and Chamber Music, studied for her Masters of Music in Piano Performance at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with Raymond Dudley and at the University of Kentucky with Nathaniel Patch. While residing in Chicago she was a student of Mary Sauer, pianist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Frederick Schauwecker, renown pianist known for his collaboration with and recordings in the vocal arts.

Known mainly as a collaborating pianist, Caryl Conger has recently performed at the 1996 and the 1997 U.S.Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Conference, 1996 Colonial Euphonium and Tuba Institute, 1995 International Brassfest, 1992 International Tuba-Euphonium Conference, the Sonneck Society, the Southeastern Composers League, the College Music Society, regional horn and saxophone conferences, and with the University of Kentucky Brass Ensemble. Continuing her long association with the low brass she has been heard in recitals with artists among whom are tubists, Daniel Perantoni, Harvey Philips, Eugene Pokorny, and Patrick Sheridan, and euphonium artists, Roger Behrend, Brian Bowman, Steven Mead and the Childs Brothers. Caryl Conger has been a part of the Radford University faculty since 1985. During this period she served for four years as a Faculty Recital Pianist for the Virginia Governor's School for the Performing Arts, has been active in the Honors Program at Radford University and contributes to her department especially in the areas of direct student contact. In 1991 she received the Alpha Lambda Delta "Outstanding Teacher" award for her work in the classroom. Her musical specialties and interests include the art song repertoire, works for 4-hand piano (the duet repertoire), and music composed by women. She can be heard on Capstone Records' "Time Chants", music composed by Bruce Mahin, also member of the Radford University music faculty. A great deal of her time is dedicated to performing and promoting new music both for solo piano and for chamber ensemble. Active both in the vocal and instrumental areas of the collaborative arts, she continues to present duo recitals with guest artists and her colleagues at Radford University. She also directs the Bartok-Kabalevsky International Piano Competition held annually at Radford University.
