HLTH 412- DRIVERS EDUCATION TASK ANALYSIS--BEHIND THE WHEEL

 

 TEXT:            Curriculum and Administrative Guide for Drivers Education in Virginia   (Provided)

 PURPOSE OF THIS COURSE:

             To develop the ability of those students enrolled, to safely and effectively teach the "behind the wheel" portion of driver's education in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

 COURSE CONTENT:

             These future instructors will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, instruct, analyze and evaluate the "behind the wheel" driving lessons and performance of students.  This includes the development of nine (9) "behind the wheel" lesson plans. Students will complete fourteen (14) observations of accredited instructors working with their students.  To receive credit for the course, these future teachers must pass an evaluation of their instructor. 

Upon successful completion of this course and the HLTH 410 Driver's Education Theory, students will have completed the requirements for the add-on endorsement to teach driver's education in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  To successfully complete this course, students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of all materials contained in the "Curriculum and Administrative Guide for Driver's Education in Virginia."

            Lesson 4 - Parking and Turnabouts [This lesson is on your own and can be done at home.  For this lesson you are to teach someone NOT in this class.  This is intended to give you experience working with "normal people."  Use any parking area.] {We advise you to use caution if you select your spouses or significant others.  We the instructors and/or RU will not be responsible for any relationship difficulties that result!!} 

           Lesson 5 - Multiple Hazards and Adverse Conditions [High traffic area -- city.]

            Lesson 6 - Evasion Maneuvers [Area of low traffic roads of gravel and  with firm shoulders]

            Lesson 7 - City and Expressway driving [Any interstate that has traffic moving at full speed]

              Teaching Behind the Wheel - Final Exam  [Instructors will evaluate you as an teacher.  We will select one for you to teach from Lessons 2, 3 or 5 (See list above.)]
