Synapse (wind controller, videotape, and computer) draws from recent research on brain activity as stimulus for its creation, particularly the generative processes associated with memory. Musical events heard early in the composition shape events which follow, creating pathways (connections) between spatial, timbral and durational elements in the music. The formal structure of the work is partially mobile; the first and last sections always occur in the same place but intermediate sections alter ordering depending on decisions made by the performer and computer during performance.
