Welcome to the web page for the Athletic Training Education Program at Radford University. The Athletic Training Education Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
Our Athletic Training Education Program is very sequential, lock-stepped program, with 120 hours of coursework required for the degree. The first two semesters of a student’s program are focused on general education courses. Students begin taking athletic training courses the first semester of their sophomore year. Following the successful completion of these courses, students may apply for admission into the program. Currently the program will accept a maximum of 16 students per year. Admission is competitive and is based upon cumulative grade point average, grades in designated pre-admission coursework and various other criteria. Students should recognize that the program’s admission process is competitive and admission cannot be guaranteed even if minimum requirements are met. If sufficient spaces are available, students who demonstrate exceptional promise in the professional opinion of the faculty of the Department of Exercise, Sport and Health Education and/or the Clinical Instructor Staff may be given provisional admission to the program for no more than one year.
While at Radford, students will have the opportunity to experience clinical rotations in a variety of men’s and women’s sports at the Division I level. Students will also have the opportunity to work extensively with physicians in both formal and informal settings, as well as in various rehabilitation clinics.
