Versailles
Not far outside the city of Paris, is the Chateau of Versailles. Nothing can quite prepare you for the beauty of Versailles. Inside the massive building itself lies ornately detailed ceilings, mantles, everything seems to be trimmed in gold and rich in color, if not in value. The mansion is quite extensive with each room being a unique masterpiece, including a battle room with floor to ceiling paintings of famous battles beginning in 400 ad and continuing around the room to almost present day.
The real beauty, however, lies outside in the gardens. Reconstruction was taking place during my visit, but it made the gardens no less impressive. It is definitely a recommended place, at least by me and it representative of the splendor and beauty that the wealthy have surrounded themselves with throughout the ages.
