Thoughts about Paris
|
Paris is a beautiful city. It is the home of many churches, museums and it also has architecture from a variety of ages making the buildings both classic and pretty. However, it was almost overwhelmingly beautiful. It seemed the beauty all ran together after a while.

The Eiffel Tower, I must admit I underestimated the Eiffel Tower's beauty. I saw it the first time during the day and I thought, "Eh-its okay" but when I saw it at night, I was in awe. It was breathtaking and the view from the top was remarkable. Paris is a whole different city at night.

The little cafes in Paris live up to their reputation as they are often quite charming. Speaking French is an asset as many of the waiters know not or pretend to not know English

Although the weather was supposed to be pretty cool in Paris, it actually warmed up enough that is was comfortable to be outside in summer clothes. There were a few bad rains.

One thing that shocked me was the amount of graffiti I saw. I know Paris is a city, but |

Food |
I rather enjoyed the food. Our breakfast consisted of croissants, cereal, jams, and au chocolats, which were like croissants with chocolate centers. Their food is quite different from ours in that it lacks the preservatives and grease so common in American cooking. Being a bread and cheese person I did enjoy it. It is good to note, however, that although wine is cheap, soft drinks and bottled water are not. The best thing I ate were the the desserts, which are totally different from US desserts, even the candy bars are different and real blackberry jam complete with whole blackberries-yum.

Transportation |
The easiest way to get around in Paris is the Metro. Having no experience on any Subway system, I had no inhibitions about the Metro and had no trouble. In fact, I found the Metro to be very easy to use, although it could be very hot and sometimes smelly. Also, be careful, cause bikes and motorcycles ride and park on the sidewalk. They do drive on the right side of the street here. There are also boat rides up the river Seine.
Advise for future travelers
Get on and off the metro quickly, you don't want to get stuck in the doors.
Buy a good umbrella, cheap ones tend to turn inside out in heavy wind (trust me on this)
See the city at night from the Eiffel Tower, you won't believe the difference
Take the boat tour up the river
