Now twenty-eight years later following a very exciting and diverse career and having a less hectic pace, I have time to reflect and be grateful for the phenomenal education I received at RU. I know that without that experience, I would not be who I am today. Some notables include - Drs. Gordon, Frets, Krebs, Lawson and Pamela Farris. I just received the RU Connecting newsletter profiling Dr. Frets - he was a great inspiration to me - nonstop energy, accessibility and versatility. He certainly turned me on to printmaking. Then I read about Jerry Krebs retiring, who introduced me to the world of metals and jewelry making. I believe I spent many more hours in that corner studio room at Powell Hall than I ever did in any dorm room. To this day I have a fine appreciation for metals and jewelry making. Last but not least, Dr. Gordon, Chair of the Department. The man who gave me an F in Ceramics as an undergraduate (deservedly), who I later served as his office assistant for my graduate assistantship. A fine fellow. I forgot to mention that I took psychology coursework as most of my electives and also did some practicums combining art and psychology. I just have to pass on how fortunate I feel doing what I am doing today - I mean it, I really feel blessed - I provide Disability Support Services to undergraduate and graduate students at a wonderful art school - Savannah College of Art and Design. I finally found my niche - able to utilize all of my skills in one place with very fast, positive outcomes while doing counseling, creativity coaching and art therapy. There is a God. |
