Standing on the Mountain as Witness:

Exploring Creative Avenues to Activism and Civic Engagement

Performance and Workshop

 

· View “Eating Appalachia: Selling Out to the Hungry Ghost,” an interdisciplinary dance performance choreographed by Deborah McLaughlin

 

· Discuss the beauty and culture of Appalachia but also reflect on the effects of mountaintop removal coalmining and a consumer-driven American society on the Appalachian region 

 

· Be given an opportunity for thoughtful discussion on the multifaceted environmental, cultural, and economic issues that affect all Americans

 

· Participate in a movement and text workshop, whereby audience members emerge from a spectator role to one in which they embody their own creative potential
