The 30th Annual Highland Summer Conference:

Appalachian Writing and Culture

Featuring:

We invite you to join well known guest authors for a two-week intensive

workshop in creative and expository writing.

  • Earn three hours credit in ENGL 490/590
  • Spend afternoons in class, June 4-15, 2007, 1:30-4:30, Monday - Friday
  • Enjoy readings by four publishing authors and receptions for them, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Profit from consultations with guest authors and critiques from the class
  • Join field trips to the beautiful Selu Conservancy and to a "Crooked Road" Music Venue
  • Build a portfolio of writing and lasting memories

Old Crow Medicine Show To Perform at RU Feb. 9

RADFORD – The Radford University Appalachian Events Committee presents Old Crow Medicine Show in concert Friday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. in Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall.  The group was most recently featured on Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion All-Star New Year’s Eve Special and on the soundtrack for the motion picture Transamerica.

Old Crow Medicine ShowMusic of the five-piece band is described as “old-time meets rock.”  They have released five full-length albums and members individually collaborated on 11 albums including a compilation album from the Bonnaroo music festival.  Often seen on CMT and GAC TV channels, the band has been featured in the documentaries American Roots Music, In the Valley Where Time Stands Still and Bluegrass Journey.

Admission is $20 general public, $15 with RU I.D. and $10 children 12 and under. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Bonnie Hurlburt Student Center Information Desk.
