Throughout the history of the world, the intellectual served two important positions: a firm base for carrying out an orderly society and efficient government, and providing the voice of reason to communicate criticism when institutions fail to function in a proper manner. In the modern world, however, the intellectual finds himself alienated, disenfranchised and dead.

Those Are Fightin' Words

With only 32 days until the general election, the first presidential debate started when both candidates came out swinging. Complete with brown-nosing, timed water drinking, manicures and tanning beds, this debate was a major production for both campaigns. Did President Bush score a crushing blow to Kerry, or did the senator take his first chip out of the president?
