Konsolidating the Kremlin Many of us currently in college vaguely remember growing up in the waning years of the Cold War. We can picture that momentous day when the Berlin Wall collapsed or when the Soviet Union broke apart. Still, for us, the threat of a communist Russia seems distant -- almost mythic -- and we only talk stoically about the facts and reminiscence with a critical eye on U.S. foreign policy in that era. We do not feel the passionate sting, the anti-Russian mob-mentality, the Communist-Pinko accusations that could bring a good name to ruin. This is all the expired sum of a bygone era. |
