Doing Stuff is Cool

Sitting here at my computer screen with my Talking Heads CD playing and my roommates in the other room making food, I notice by the big calendar that it is almost Monday night and I have yet to write an article for the greatest Internet publication out there. I suppose the reason I've yet to start my article is that usually, I have some sort of idea of what I want to write about, but this week it just hasn't come to me as quickly. I'll think of something; after all, Whim is totally cool and they really don't mind what I write about.

  So, I started thinking about writing Whim articles. It's fun, and I'm saying something to someone. Somebody will read this, even if it is just my mom. Somebody will see what I have to say, even if I really don't have much to say (as is pretty much the case this time). Writing for Whim has given me the chance to express myself. It has also made me realize that if you are not saying something, you ought to start. I guess this is where I could compare it to voting and tell you why it's important to voice your opinion. It is important, but I won't do that because you are hearing it from MTV all the time anyway. Voting is an easy thing for people to say you should do, but I'm convinced that's because of the recent election and because being heard has become part of the mainstream. There are also a billion other things you can do (but that's not to say you shouldn't vote).

College really is one of the best opportunities to voice your opinion. You're young and just coming to terms with the world around you. You should not only recognize that, but be involved in it. I'm not going to tell you what exactly you should do; that's for you to decide. For goodness sake, though, DO SOMETHING!

I'm going to keep this one short because judging by the fact that the soundtrack of this article has gone from the Talking Heads to Al Green (figure that one out), I'd better wrap it up. If you take my words into consideration, I thank you. If you don't, that's OK, too; perhaps you have a better reason than I do for why you shouldn't get up and do something. Now, that is something I'd like to hear.
