All us geeks love tinkering with technological gadgets, taking them apart, putting them back together and figuring out how they work. Problem is that the average college student doesn't have the resources (i.e. piles of cash) to buy new electronics all the time. There are lots of ways to get technology for less. In fact, you might be surprised at how little you'll have to pay.

About a year ago, scientists didn't even know how live water skimmers pulled off the feat of skimming on water. Now, they're making their own. A research team led by Carnegie Mellon engineering assistant professor Metin Sitti has built a small robot that can walk on water.
