The marketing geniuses at Astraware and the coding monkey's at PopCap software have teamed up to deliver to the PDA owning, and bored of classes among us, yet another amusing game with which to waste our time. This go round they have fed the proletariat "Mars Needs Cows." The plot of the game (excuse to write the code), is Mars is in need of farm animals from Earth to expand its farm animal population. They have sent you to Earth to abduct friendly ruminids, among other barn-yard creatures.

Game play is very simple. Tap on a creature, then a blinking purple arrow to send that creature in the specified direction on a 5x5 grid. Creatures so moved will proceed in a straight line until they encounter a wall, or another object in their path. The "beam up" site is in the center of the grid, and a creature will walk right past it unfettered lest you place something in its path to force it to stop. So why is this very basic logic-puzzle game so addictive and fun? It's all about the graphics and sounds! Unlike previously reviewed games, this game has creative, even cute graphics of the various farm creatures, and an eerie sci-fi-rific soundtrack to amuse and entertain while you work your way thru the process of abducting the specified animals.

Mars Needs Cows is cute, funny, but as everyone is used to me saying by now, a tad bit overpriced. Don't sweat the $15 though; smart Palm OS shoppers will watch the major Palm OS Software sites for sales and specials. As funny and addictive as this game is, you should at least try the free demo version.
