"Portable Firefox" is a fully functioning package of Firefox that has been optimized to run from a USB flash drive. The package also has support for most Firefox and Thunderbird extensions to work. In addition to working from your portable flash drive, Portable Firefox will run from a CDRW drive, a Zip drive, an external hard drive, and some mp3 players. So far, Portable Firefox has been downloaded about 70,000 times. After being downloaded and unzipped into your flash drive, Portable Firefox will create a "firefox" directory and install the portable version to the drive. Launching the "portablefirefox.exe" file will run Firefox directly on the drive and create all profiles on the drive, instead of locally. Upgrading is easy when new versions of Firefox are released. Download the newer version of Portable Firefox and overwrite the "firefox" directory on the drive. In addition to several other portable versions of software, Haller offers a Portable Thunderbird, allowing you to use Mozilla's email software anywhere you can put a flash drive -- just like Portable Firefox. So, next time you're working in Walker, don't give in and use Internet Explorer, because it’s the only option. Use the Firefox in your pocket! |
