We'll start with the heart of this Eagles team: Donovan McNabb. When hešs not eating his Campbell's Chicken Soup with his mama, he plays a little game called football. He's not bad either, because after just three games, he has a completion percentage of 69.8, six touchdown passes and two touchdown runs -- giving him a quarterback rating of 122. A QB rating that was only at 79.6 at the conclusion of last season. Donovan appears to be very healthy, and this season could prove to be his best season ever. Moving along, let's analyze the Eagles offense. The Eagles are a scoring machine that is composed of a very experienced and talented offensive line, star receivers/tight ends, a young running back and an outstanding quarterback. Yes, Terrell Owens has caught 18 passes for 254 yards and has 5 touchdowns, but it's the rest of the offense that helps win games. Wide Receivers Todd Pinkston and Freddie Mitchell have caught 11 passes for a combined 205 yards. Tight End Chad Lewis has caught 11 for 101 yards, and even tight end Mike Bartrum has caught a touchdown pass already this season. McNabb is spreading the ball around to everyone, and that is a true sign of an organized team. The real deal, however, is behind McNabb in the backfield. Running back Brian Westbrook has rushed 42 times for 232 yards and had his first 100-yard game this season in the season opener against the New York Giants. Together, this offense is unstoppable. On the other side of the ball is a defense that has some familiar faces. Defensive end Hugh Douglas returns back from the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Jeremiah Trotter returns back from the Washington Redskins. The Eagles defense is dominating despite their young corners and backs. Now that Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor have left to play for other teams, the younger corners (Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown) have proven to be extremely good at stopping the pass. Both these two had plenty of game experience last season, when injuries took Vincent and Taylor from a few games. At safety, Brian Dawkins is down right nasty. He is one of the best, if not the best in the league. Dawkins packs a nasty punch. The other safety is Michael Lewis, who has the potential to be just as good as Dawkins. They all make up a hard hitting defense capable of stopping any team's offense. Just ask Randy Moss about the Eagles defense; he didn't seem to put up many points for himself when he played against them. So with all this, the Philadelphia Eagles are running on all cylinders and heading directly towards their first ever Super Bowl win. I'm calling it right now. With McNabb and an explosive offense, Dawkins and a trembling defense, look for the Eagles to put a dent in the NFL this season. Oh yeah, and did I mention they'll win the Super Bowl too? |
